Never Judge a Book By Its Cover

This book is perhaps one of the trickiest books I have ever read. I open up the book.. the font is a cartoony font, almost reminiscent of Comic Sans, and there's cartoons everywhere, drawn in a goofy style. I think to myself, "Heh, this can't be too bad, can it?". Then I start reading. The text is complicated, but not convoluted. Palmer does a good job of expressing difficult philosophy topics in a clear, yet funny way without diluting them one bit. The book, although it looks like its for children, is definitely not so.

My Center is Still Holding

As far as philosophy goes, there's always something fascinating to learn or discover about how we act, react, and function with each other and the world we live in. Palmer explains what philosophy is, how we are affected by it on a daily basis, and he brings a great perspective to each philosophical style presented in this book. He doesn't just discuss styles and philosopher's according to their timeline throughout history, but he integrates the influence their philosophy had on future philosophers and time periods. It is amazing to see how our actions and thinking have been infuenced by individuals who lived thousands of years ago, and how that knowledge has been edited over time. We may have been influenced by our predecessors, but our current knowledge and experience is moulding the philosophy of tomorrow. Palmer used a lot of fun comics to emphasize some concepts, and help his readers visualize ideas the philosopher's believed in. It is an easy to read, informative learning tool for anyone who wants to get a basic background in philosophy.

Intro to Philosophy

I like, very much, every aspect of the book. It is a book for people who would like to have a great intro to philosophy and figure out where in life they would like to go. It tells you beliefs of old to modern philosophers. The book doesn't dive deep into any one subject, its just an intro to what you would like to study more about. The books title is exactly what the book contains, an intro to Western based philosophy.
