I Found Inspiration Times Two in this Highly Recommended Read

Here's a full disclosure: Doreen Banaszak helped me become a best-selling author. "Quit playing small, Greg!", Doreen told me a few years ago and I'll always be grateful to her. Additionally, Arden Rembert Brink is a woman I enjoyed getting to know a bit through Doreen when they began this project.

That disclosure, in my experience, adds weight to this review. Because I'm not just reviewing The Power of Acceptance, I'm also able to share that the authors walk their talk. The humor, wisdom, insight, and inspiration you'll find here is genuine.

The Power of Acceptance makes great use of storytelling. We learn best through storytelling and I believe you'll agree that Arden's tale blends wonderfully with Doreen's coaching. Arden and Doreen had a fantastic idea and pulled it off superbly here; using acceptance as a powerful tool for influencing your material experiences is both evocatively illustrated and pragmatically explained.

I came away with not only a clear image of how important acceptance is, but also motivated to employ it in my life. And isn't that outcome one of the main reasons we enjoy reading a self-empowerment book?

This book works so well, in fact, it was a wonderful "smack upside the head" for me. You'll see me employing storytelling in some upcoming installments of my Why Quantum Physicists... series.

Band-aids don't work!

Band-Aids don't work! That's what we do (especially Law of Attraction practitioners) when we try to stuff the negative thoughts and feelings we have about circumstances and experiences in our life. We slap a bright-colored, smiley-face band-aid on the anger, the frustration, the worry and start repeating positive affirmations as if they were a magical chant or spell. But those feelings are real, and to ignore them and stuff them and cover them with a band-aid will not diffuse or heal the issue.

This book clearly teaches a truth that will set you free ... acceptance. Acceptance of what is right now. Acceptance allows expansion and evolving into more. Band-aids diminish and destroy opportunities

I loved the fictional story in this book ... something that tremendously helps readers identify with the characters and see how the power of acceptance began to work for them. It set the stage, opened the mind for Part 2 of the book where more indepth study and tools are shared to help the reader apply this to their own life, just as the characters in the story had done.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who has been struggling, anyone who has felt imprisoned in their lives, anyone who desires to change what isn't working for them.

An Inspiring Book!

The Power of Acceptance is a quick and fascinating read. I found that I was immediately drawn in, in the first half of the book, to the characters’ stories, their hardships and hopes. Arden wove the fictional half of this book so artfully that it seemed that Marjorie, Allison, Jason, and the rest, almost seemed like friends, and I was eager to learn how the circumstances for each would resolve. And because I could so easily see how their states of limitation or states of abundance actually manifested their circumstances, I was more prepared to wrap my mind around the concepts and theory that Doreen explained in the second half of the book: i.e. going “Beyond the Law of Attraction,” and becoming a conscious creator of what we really want. I also appreciated that I did not need to re-read Doreen’s first book, Excuse Me, Your Life Is Now, or The Law of Attraction, because when Doreen made references to these works, she skillfully explained how her current thinking had evolved from them, and I felt like I was instantly up to speed. I recommend that you take “inspired action” and get yourself a copy of this wonderful book, and be “willing to consider” that it will have a positive impact in your life!

Joseph McMoneagle was one of the original remote viewers recruited into the military's Project Stargate, a once secret army project designed to use trained remote viewers for spying during the cold war. For the uninitiated, remote viewing (often referred to as RV) is a skill that allows a person (viewer) to envision events, people, or objects that are not within eyesight--in another room or in another country (and sometimes in the future).

McMoneagle believes that anybody can be trained in remote viewing (no psychic gifts required). However, it requires a huge commitment and a highly disciplined mind. Using the analogy of martial arts, McMoneagle sees RV training in levels, starting with white belt where viewers can expect to see a gestalt (an overall impression) of a target. By the time readers reach the red-black belt-great master, McMoneagle claims they will have gained "a near-perfect union of one's paranormal talent blended within extant reality. People who reach this level no longer have to think about it, they simply do." Although readers won't become a great master by reading this one book, McMoneagle does provide a comprehensive training program as well as important chapters on the ethics, protocol, and applications of remote viewing. --Tara West

"Remote viewing" is the ability to perceive psychically and describe unknown objects, people, places, or events. McMoneagle (Mind Trek, The Ultimate Time Machine), a former U.S. Army officer who worked for the Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM), was recruited for the top-secret remote-viewing program known as STARGATE. Other books on this subject (e.g., Jim Schnabel's Remote Viewers, Dell, 1997; David Morehouse's Psychic Warrior, St. Martin's, 1996) are more biographical; McMoneagle instead offers basic definitions, examples, and qualifications that would be needed by the potential remote viewer. The second half of the book includes detailed training methods, technical applications, and protocols omitted in his previous titles. Because there is a lot of new information here, this is recommended for larger public and academic libraries.

An interesting (realistic) look at development of intuition.

I've spent 6 years studying (science and methods) RV; trained and
talked at length with some of the allegedly best RV people in military
and science in the West. I know what's out there. And boy am I cynical
now! -- But this book ... is worth more than 'RV Training' many pay
thousands for. Of the time/$ I've spent, when I look back on that
investment, the one thing I feel was worth the while was encountering
Joe McMoneagle. In a world full of rich gurus, true believers,
pseudo-skeptics and planet-sized egos abounding, Joe is just a
no-bull**** down to earth guy who knows what he's talking about.
If
you're looking for an adventure to "teach you" how to remote
view god and aliens in no time, don't buy Joe's books. He's certainly
got unusual experiences and an open mind, but he won't talk about the
hype-ridden stuff that sells most books/media. I prefer his
approach. Few star-streaming cosmic surges in it... but if you want
something factual, that isn't jerking your chain, Joe's the man.
In
this book McMoneagle tries to provide a framework: one that won't
interfere with or form people's belief systems; one that does not hand
credit (and responsibility) for talent or success/failure to any
"magic method" or guru selling it; a simple conceptual
framework to hold and emphasize the life-wide nature of effort
required for psi self-discovery.
Even "skeptics" who have
written on RV, such as author Jim Schnabel in his book REMOTE VIEWERS,
for all the debates, you'll see -- in the end it's a "Joe the
Hero" story. (I didn't write it... take it up with Jim.) Even to
an outsider skeptic. Anybody who has done serious research knows
McMoneagle's work is a crucial support beam for the entire field of
psychic ability used in intelligence and scientific research.
An
earlier review was upset there is no 'method' in this book. I've had
methods ('subjective protocols', I love these terms!) training out the
wazoo. I'd have been better off if I just sat down to draw and
"let myself sort of imagine what it could be." (Look ma,
there's a method. I can name it something cool, add all kinds of
ridiculous rules and charge a thousand bucks for it if it'll make it
seem more real for someone.) I wouldn't be trying to un-learn all
kinds of junk now if I'd gone that route.
Joe doesn't offer the
"magic method" approach in this book, true. Maybe he knows
something we don't and that's why. No method in the world can
substitute for paying close attention to yourself and doing things
right... for a long time. Joe spells out a lot about both of those
areas in this book. All mystery aside, RV is cognitive-feedback and
practiced "attention" to an advanced degree, to entrain your
mind to better understand itself when communicating 'subtle'
information.
This book is good advice but not a cosmic wiretap. It's
for realists who are tired of doctrine or mysticism (secrets!) --
people who want to get to the point and DO psi work on their own --
without having to re-invent wheels, and without having to make the
many mistakes that the last few decades of psi research/practice have
already learned something about. This book provides a framework
("martial art of the mind") that won't hurt anybody, and a
ton of "words to the wise."
REMOTE VIEWING SECRETS won't
tell you that RV skill is fast or easy or even possible to the same
degree for everyone. McMoneagle worked his butt off for his skill and
doesn't pull any punches about saying it's not a hobby, it's a
"way" in the martial arts sense. Knowing factors that
influence psi function, training & accuracy, Joe lays 'em down in
this book. If it doesn't sound like some expected paint-by-number
Psychic 101 course, good. It's not. He's not selling anything but
experience -- the many things he learned while DOing RV for the last
30 years.
I can't speak to anybody who either wants to believe
everything or doesn't want to believe anything. But if your interest
is in how to work on your own toward psi (RV) development, I think
this book is probably the best bedside manual that so far
exists. Taken with Joe's first book MIND TREK, it's worth a lot more
than it costs.

destined to be THE CLASSIC in the psychic field

Anyone with an interest in the paranormal or psychic functioning of any kind MUST have this book. Like "Mind Trek", with "Remote Viewing Secrets" Joe has broken new ground in the field of psychic literature. But "Remote Viewing Secrets" far surpasses anything even Joe has published to-date. The book is a true masterpiece.
Joe addresses every aspect of psychic functioning with a depth and rich clarity that has never been achieved. For a remote viewer, it's all here; what is real and what is not, proper targeting, protocols, training, applications, methods, evaluating yourself,etc. His descriptions of the inner development of a novice remote viewer is uncanny.
This also the book for anyone with a healthy skepticism. The honest, open-minded person will find what s/he is looking for in these pages.
I must say this: I've experienced spontaneous psychic events since childhood and I've read every paranormal-related book I could get my hands on. The writing of McMoneagle eclipses everything else. Follow his advice to the letter and, whatever natural ability you have; it will shine through. If you are one of those people who are gifted; in this book you will find the reassurance and support you need. Joe's been there, and he lets the reader know it.
Joe McMoneagle is paving the way for the rest of us. Honest, readable, yet straight-to-the-point, this book shows you the trail, warns you of the pitfalls, explains every conceivable twist and turn, and then encourages you to explore at your own pace. This book is destined to be THE classic in psychic literature. At least until Joe writes another one...

Practical and authoritative guide

If nothing else then you have to appreciate Joseph McMoneagle's attempt to work within a scientific framework for something that is very subjective in nature and interpretation. If you are looking for a book that discusses the "secret" methods or remote viewing or some "secret" formula for making it work then you will be disappointed in this book. On the other hand it is not filled with fluff and overly optimistic promises for the reader. While McMoneagle indicates that pretty much anyone can learn how to do remote viewing, he also is more realistic in terms of what you should expect at different stages. It is a growth process and he defines how to determine what stage you are at as well as the level of success that you should expect as you get better and better with practice. If remote viewing works then this is the most realistic book about it that I have seen. No "pie in the sky" promises or expectations, quite the opposite he explains that success may be measured in very small successes and even being just plain wrong is going to happen at times. I think that he tries too hard to make the research appear more scientific than it is. However, it is probably as close a scientific approach as can be done on this sort of subject. The parameters for learning remote viewing are spelled out and done in a way that provides a working model for the reader to learn on their own without confusing the claims of publicity and ego-pumping charlatans with what can really be expected to occur.

About the Author
Dr. Frieze is a professor of Psychology and Women's Studies at the University of Pittsburgh. She began researching the experiences of battered women in the 1970s and has continued her interest in this as well as looking at dating violence and other forms of interpersonal violence. She co-authored one of the first textbooks on the Psychology of Women (WOMEN AND SEX ROLES, published in 1978), and has edited special issues of journals on several topics, including the psychology of victimization, women and gender roles, and applications of theory on interpersonal power. Dr. Frieze has been awarded the Distinguished Career Award by the Association for Women in Psychology, the Carolyn Wood Sherif Memorial Lectureship Award, a Distinguished Leadership award from APA's Committee on Women in Psychology, and recognition by the Science Citation Institute as the author of a citation classic. She continues to do ground-breaking research on stalking, gender and work, work and gender in Central and Eastern Europe, career choice and love and intimacy in close relationships.

Great to use as a text

I used this book as a text in my Gender and Aggression seminar. It would work well in any Women's Studies or Psychology class that addresses interpersonal violence. The students found it very readable. The research cited is up to date and the research findings are presented in a framework that makes them interesting and interpretable. Frieze addresses interpersonal violence as a personal and a societal problem.

This straight-forward book presents all the latest information on family/domestic violence. Although the book is based on the latest research studies, it is readable and accessible not only to psychologists and health workers, but to all those who might have been touched by family violence.
