Microbiology is one of the core subjects for veterinary students, and since its first publication in 2002, Veterinary Microbiology and Microbial Disease has become an essential text for students of veterinary medicine. Fully revised and expanded, this new edition updates the subject for pre-clinical and clinical veterinary students in a comprehensive manner. Individual sections deal with bacteriology, mycology and virology. Written by an academic team with many years of teaching experience, the book provides concise descriptions of groups of microorganisms and the diseases which they cause. Microbial pathogens are discussed in separate chapters which provide information on the more important features of each microorganism and its role in the pathogenesis of diseases of animals. The international and public health significance of these pathogens are reviewed comprehensively. The final section is concerned with the host and is organized according to the body system affected.

Tables, boxes and flow diagrams provide information in an easily assimilated format. This edition contains new chapters on molecular diagnostics and on infectious conditions of the skin, cardiovascular system, urinary tract and musculoskeletal system. Many new colour diagrams are incorporated into this edition and each chapter has been updated.

Need Vet mircobiology book....buy this one, don't waste money on others.

This is a GREAT, great book for learning veterinary micro. I've read and bought (unfortunately) a few books on the matter and it would have been nice if I had bought this one first....would have saved me some money, and I would have a more fluent understanding of the matter at this point.

If you want to be an animator, this is a MUST in your library sitting right next to your copy of the Illusion of Life.

This is CORE reading for aspiring animators and a survival guide for working professionals. For the last 11 years of my career, I have referred to this guide religiously.

A Must-Have. No. Really. I Mean It.

I'm not going to write an in-depth review listing pros and cons. All I will say is if you're an animation student, buy it.
This book goes over the basic tenets of animation, and several things your instructors will drill into your head. My 3d animation teacher tells us three things when we start our projects, and that is "Reference, reference, reference."
This book is worth its weight in gold if you are an animation student. Buy it. You will not regret it.

A disservice to Edward Gorey

The Edward Gorey Charitable Trust is continuing to create "new" Edward Gorey books with this issue. Only by reading the wonderful Goreyana blog would a reader know that the text of Saint Melissa the Mottled was first published by Gorey in 1949 in the Radcliffe College magazine Signature. Nowhere is this indicated in the book itself or on the publisher's website. By Gorey's standards, the text is quite prolix, lacking the lean texture of his mature work. Instead of simply publishing the text unadorned, the story has been retro-fitted with drawings from the entirety of Gorey's career as an illustrator. Gorey's visual style evolved over the years, so ranging so widely across the decades makes for a very disjointed look to the visual narrative of the book, especially as the illustrations range in size as well. Unfortunately, some of the drawings are very poorly printed. Just read Floating Worlds and it's clear how Gorey labored over every detail of every book he ever wrote or illustrated. It's a disservice to an artist like him to publish this cobbled together book.

Ominous development

A disservice to Gorey's reputation. This is a mishmash of drawings taken from earlier books (and done in a variety of styles). The text reads as if it was fished out of a bottom drawer. Other recent posthumous works are not much better. I hope this isn't the beginning of a long line of embarrassments. Gorey never would have approved this for publication.

Gorey Turning Over in His Grave

What a sham.
Edward Gorey would never have allowed his work to be published like this. As a collector of early Gorey editions, it is getting frustrating seeing publishing companies, specifically Pomegranate, but now Bloomsbury as well, adding color to illustrations that originally had no color and releasing something like Saint Melissa the Mottled. By taking illustrations from his previous works and adding them to unreleased written works, a disservice is being performed to the brilliance of Edward Gorey, especially to new readers who may not know any different. Really disappointed about this.

Stick to the antique stores people! Find the editions Gorey would have wanted you to read and hold and enjoy.

In 1980, Weiss, head of the psychiatry department at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, began treating Catherine, a 27-year-old woman plagued by anxiety, depression and phobias. When Weiss turned to hypnosis to help Catherine remember repressed childhood traumas, what emerged were the patient's descriptions of a dozen or so of her hitherto unknown 86 past lives, as well as philosophical messages channeled from "Master Spirits." Catherine's anxieties and phobias soon disappeared, says Weiss, and she was able to end therapy. The previously nonspiritual, scientific Weiss, awed by Catherine's and the masters' revelations, has written this book to share his new-found knowledge about "immortality and the true meaning of life." Whether or not one believes in reincarnation and channeling, Weiss's book will disappoint. Catherine's descriptions of her past lives are not particularly compelling or insightful. Moreover, the teachings of the Master Spirits ("We are not to kill. . . . Only God can punish," "Charity, hope, faith, love . . . we must all know these things," and "Our body is just a vehicle for us while we're here. This Book Has Changed My Life

This book is amazing! I have been an atheist all my life despite (or is it as a result of?) attending Hebrew school as a child and Christian school from 4th through 12th grade. In my final year in college, I took an Intro to Buddhism course and was immediately intrigued by Buddhist teachings and philosophies. But my exploration of Buddhism hit a wall, because I could not convince myself to subscribe to one of the fundamental tennets of Buddhism: the belief in reincarnation. I just didn't believe in reincarnation at all. I was always of the "You Die and That's It" school. Nothing even remotely changed this view for years--until last week when I read this book. In the span of less than 24 hours, I went from not believing in reincarnation at all to being almost completely convinced of its existence.
I read this book with a very skeptical eye. But I also read it with objectivity, and, above all else, an intense desire to find truth. And I believe the account in this book to be factual. For the sake of argument, if it's a fake, it's an absolutely brilliant fake. But if it's completely authentic, then it's a phenomenal account that could change your life for the better. Either way, it's worth a read.

Past Life/ Reincarnation Primer

Many Lives, Many Masters by Brian L. Weiss, M.D. was an easy, enjoyable read. Well written and fast paced, I read it in one sitting. Most of the subject matter covered will not be new to a long-time student of reincarnation. This book is geared for readers new to the subject, as Dr. Weiss was at the time the events he describes took place. His analysis of events may annoy those who don't require concrete proof of spiritual realities. He offered no verifiable scientific proof of what he presented anyway. It was encouraging to see a serious scientist open his mind to faith without proof. Dr. Weiss' enlightenment on the subject (in this, his first book) is limited to one patient he regressed through 12 of her 86 past lives. The ones that are delved into aren't described in much depth. Though the regressions reveal personal insight into her present life difficulties, there's not much applicable universally. Some "Masters" he quotes seem a little too judgmental to be enlightened spirits: "Humans just destroy. They will eventually destroy themselves." Much of their wisdom offered little new in the way of insight: "Wisdom is achieved very slowly." The methods he describes using to obtain this material don't rule out contact with less enlightened spirits, which Dr. Weiss admits at one point. So the "many masters" may not have been masters at all. He does show how past life regression can be a powerful tool in healing emotional problems and phobias. Journey of Souls and Destiny of Souls by Michael Newton, Ph.D, another regression therapist, are much more in depth and informative, though they deal with life between lives more than the mechanics of reincarnation itself. If your budget calls for more bang for your buck, your money might be better spent on classic "must read" books on reincarnation: Many Mansions by Gina Cerminara & You Were Born Again To Be Together by Dick Sutphen. For those open to the concept of reincarnation

Weiss, Chief of Psychiatry at a large university-affiliated hospital in Miami, first met 27 year old Catherine in 1980 when seeking help for her anxiety, panic attacks and phobias. For 18 months he used conventional methods without success but then in a series of hypnotic trance states Catherine recalled past-life memories that proved to be the causative factors of her symptoms leading to her cure within a few months. She did not believe in reincarnation but acted as a conduit for secrets of life and death from highly evolved spirit entities, some of which were specifically for him. Weiss's life would never be the same again.

When the guide described artifacts at an Egyptian exhibit she found herself correcting him and at the next treatment Weiss regressed her, asking her to recall earlier ages; "Go back to the time from which your symptoms arise." "We live in a valley; there is no water; the year is 1863 B.C. The area is barren, hot and sandy. There is a well, no rivers. Water comes into the valley from the mountains. There are big waves knocking down trees. There's no place to run. It's cold; the water is cold. I have to save my baby, but I cannot; just have to hold her tight. I drown; the water chokes me." In later sessions he found that her experience of death in her many lives was similar each time. A conscious part of her would leave the body around the moment of death, floating above and then being drawn to a wonderful, energizing light. She would then wait for someone to come and help her. The soul automatically passed on. Weiss investigated references to reincarnation. "In A.D. 325 the Roman emperor Constantine the Great, along with his mother, Helena, had deleted references to reincarnation contained in the New Testament. The Second Council of Constantinople, meeting in A.D. 553, confirmed this action and declared the concept of reincarnation a heresy. Apparently, they thought this concept would weaken the growing power of the Church by giving humans too much time to seek their salvation. Yet the original references had been there; the early Church fathers had accepted the concept of reincarnation. The early Gnostics - Clement of Alexandria, Origen, Saint Jerome, and many others - believed they had lived before and would again."

Between sessions Catherine became more psychic, having intuitions about people and events that proved to be true. Her father, expressing doubt about what was happening, was amazed when she picked the winner of every race, although she gave the winnings to a poor person as she knew that her new spiritual powers should not be used for financial gain. She recalled periods between lives. "I am aware of a bright light. It's wonderful; you get energy from this light." She then spoke in a different voice. "Our task is to learn, to become God-like through knowledge. We know so little. You are here to be my teacher. I have so much to learn. By knowledge we approach God, and then we can rest. Then we can come back to teach and help others." "They tell me there are many gods, for God is in each of us." She later identified the masters, highly evolved souls not presently in body, as the source. They could speak to him through her. Although he had kept a strictly professional distance, telling nothing about his personal life, Catherine explained the deeper meaning - payment of karmic debts and teaching lessons - of the one-in-ten million heart defect that caused the death of his first born child when 23 days old. "Catherine could not possibly know this information. There was no place even to look it up." "Who tells you these things?" "The Master Spirits tell me. They tell me that I have lived eighty-six times in physical state." He pondered the miraculous messages and the implications. " The light after death and the life after death; our choosing when we are born and when we will die; the sure and unerring guidance of the masters; lifetimes measured in lessons learned and tasks fulfilled, not in years; charity, hope, faith, and love; doing without expectation of return - this knowledge was for me. But for what purpose? What was I sent here to accomplish?" He realized that faults are not important - love is. He did not need to try to be perfect or in control all the time. There was no need to impress anyone.

Psychiatrists use high doses of tranquilizers and antidepressant medicines to treat people with Catherine's symptoms whereas under Weiss's hypnosis treatment she became radiant, serene, and happy beyond his wildest hopes. This book will be of interest to anyone open to the concept of reincarnation and the thought that each of us may have lived multiple lives. Could it be that we never die but pass through different phases? Could it be that time is not as we see time, but rather in lessons learned. Could it be that guardian angels want to help us, especially to overcome the fear of death? Could it be that acts of violence and injustice will have to be repaid in kind in other lifetimes? Could it be that greed, manipulation and self-centeredness retard the progress of the soul? Could it be that our body is just a vehicle while our souls and spirit last for ever?

Nice place to hold the cash

First off, get the app Every Dollar to get your budget in place. You can access the site online (google it) and create your budget there and it will also be in your phone. It's super easy and you can track everything on your computer or phone. No excuses! :-)

This executive envelopes are to hold everything once you've made a budget, and the app and online version from Dave is pretty awesome and it's free.

This trifold is something you do not want to carry around all the time because, to state the obvious, it holds all your cash. It has 8 envelopes that are spiral bound and 4 loose ones. It also has a coin pouch and a pad of paper and pen. The binding itself is really nice. I wish the envelopes were a little bigger unless I get hundred dollar bills instead of twenties for my grocery budget. Also the lines are super small to write on. Overall, it will help.

Bulky but very helpful

I have taken the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace course before, and became very interested in using the cash system. I had tried using regular letter envelopes, but that did not work well as I was continually losing the change and not tracking all purchases.

I purchased this cash system set, and I am so happy I did. There is plenty of room for all of my needed cash categories. Inside the leather notebook you receive cash envelopes + extras, a notepad, change pouch, and pen. The envelopes give a place to track the cash.

Considering everything you get it is a bit bulky, and will not fit inside a pocket or small purse. The system is easy to use once you get it down.

I have been doing the Envelope System for a while now but haven't had the official Ramsey system. I have been using plain mailing envelopes. I love how it is all written out for you and you can knew exactly what to do. We have saved so much money using this system. I would recommend it to everyone wanting to get out of debt and save money.

Ehhh

Terrible grasp of English. The first sentence of the book is a massive run on sentence, and the first example of a company is one a bunch of college kids parents helped them start... Plus lots of misspelling. You think for 200+ dollars they'd hire someone to proof read.

I was hoping the 3rd edition would be closer to the 4th edition and I was wrong.

I tried to save myself a lot of money by buying an older edition of a textbook instead of the newer one. Unfortunately all the case studies changed as did a lot of the material resulting in the need to rent the newer textbook. Lesson learned. If you need this for a class do not buy this because it won't work for any case studies or application questions. If you are buying it for fun it will be fine.
